Creating a culture of responsible driving starts with youth. Vision Zero Schools is a peer-to-peer program that helps North Dakota schools promote safe driving behaviors and reduce the risk of traffic deaths and serious injuries among students and their communities.

A Vision Zero School operates on the belief that zero traffic deaths is the only acceptable goal. Participating schools work with student leaders to encourage personal responsibility and reinforce the message that crashes are preventable.

Vision Zero Schools empowers students to become traffic safety advocates. Student leaders share safety messages tailored to their peers regarding:

  • Seat belt use
  • Distracted driving
  • Impaired driving
  • Speed and aggressive driving

These messages are shared in ways that are visible, relatable, and meaningful to the student body.

Schools that join the Vision Zero program receive dedicated support and materials, including:

  • Vision Zero Schools Banner: Highlighting student leaders and key safety messages.
  • Student Leader PSAs: Public service announcements for school events, social media, and websites.
  • Dedicated Outreach Coordinator: Professional assistance with activities and educational opportunities.

Participation also provides student leaders with real-world leadership experience for resumes and college applications.

If you are interested in becoming a Vision Zero School or learning more, please contact your regional outreach coordinator.
