Law enforcement agencies across North Dakota issued 5409 citations during the Speeding Slows You Down enforcement campaign July 1 through Aug. 9, 2026.
During the enforcement period, participating agencies conducted extra patrols focused on speeding, aggressive driving and other dangerous behaviors. Of the total citations issued, 4917 were for speeding. Officers also issued 57 citations for failure to wear a seat belt and 10 for distracted driving. Additional enforcement results included 6 drug arrests and 5 driving under the influence arrests.
Speeding and aggressive driving continue to contribute to serious and fatal crashes in North Dakota. In 2025, speeding and/or aggressive driving was a factor in 29% of fatal crashes in North Dakota.
Drivers can help prevent crashes by following posted speed limits and adjusting their speed for road, traffic and weather conditions.
