Law enforcement agencies across North Dakota will increase patrols Aug. 14 through Sept. 7 as part of the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over enforcement campaign. The effort is focused on removing impaired drivers from the road and preventing alcohol and drug-related crashes.
Throughout the enforcement period, officers will be watching for drivers impaired by alcohol, drugs or a combination of both. The increased patrols are designed to deter impaired driving while helping keep North Dakota roads safe during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.
The enforcement campaign is supported by messaging that reminds motorists how alcohol and drugs affect driving ability by slowing reaction time, reducing coordination and impairing judgement. Even small amounts of impairment can increase the risk of a crash.
Motorists are encouraged to make a plan before consuming alcohol or other impairing substances. Designate a sober driver, arrange a ride with a friend or family member or use a rideshare service.
Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over is part of North Dakota’s Vision Zero strategy to eliminate traffic deaths and serious injuries statewide.
